Party Animals is a multiplayer physics-based brawler/party game[1][2] developed by Recreate Games and published by Source Technology. The game is scheduled to be released for Microsoft Windows at an unannounced date. A demo version of the game was available as a free trial from June 16, 2020 to June 21, 2020 during the Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition and from October 4, 2020 to October 13, 2020 during the Steam Game Festival: Autumn Edition.[3][4]
Gameplay[edit]
Party Animals is a physics-based competitive brawler game where players play as various animals including puppies, kittens, ducks, bunnies, sharks, dinosaurs and even unicorns.[5] Animals can punch, toss, jump, kick, and headbutt each other. They are also able to pick up an assortment of weapons.[6] Upon taking a certain amount of damage, players are temporarily knocked out. In most cases, they recover and return to the fight, unless they are tossed off the map or into various hazards.Currently, the game encompasses two game modes, Last Stand, a free-for-all skirmish and Snatch Squad, an objective-based capture the flag style game mode.[7] In Last Stand, the player battles up to 7 other animals with the objective of being the last animal standing.[8] In Snatch Squad, players are divided into two teams of up to four players each and fight over gummies in the center of the arena that can be dropped into their team’s pit for points. According to the game’s official website, there are currently four maps and eleven playable characters
Development[edit]
The game was developed by Recreate Games, a game studio founded by Luo Zixiong, the former design director at Smartisan.[9] The game was first teased on Twitter in September 2019.[10] Open demos of the game were available to the public in June and October 2020 for short periods of time. Developers revealed in a July 1, 2020 press release that the game will be released on consoles in the future.[11]
Reception[edit]
The game has received mostly positive reviews. During the Steam Game Festival: Autumn Edition, it reached a concurrent player peak of 135,834, making it the fourth most played game on Steam.[12] The game amassed a large numbers of viewers on Twitch, having over 113,000 viewers watching gameplay streams.[13]

The last couple of months have seen many indie games suddenly exploding in popularity. Titles like Fall Guys, Among Us, and, most recently, Phasmophobia have become sensations on Twitch and elsewhere practically overnight. Now, it looks like the cartoon brawler Party Animals may be the next game to join that list of surprise hits.
People started to take notice of the game when a demo was released on Steam last week as part of the latest Steam Game Festival. Like with the aforementioned titles, a number of popular streamers have been playing it, leading to word-of-mouth marketing that resulted in the game reaching 110,000 concurrent players over the weekend. With this much buzz surrounding the demo, it’s possible the full game could follow Fall Guys and Among Us’ lead and end up with millions of players.

What Is Party Animals?
Developed by Chinese studio Recreate Games, Party Animals is a fighting game currently on Steam where players control a cast of stubby-limbed animals including cats, dogs, and plenty more. The game includes different modes along with a variety of maps, all centered around the main objective of knocking players off the stage and being the last one standing.

Adding to the comedy of watching cute critters pummel one another is the game’s use of ragdoll physics, similarly to games like Gang Beasts and Human: Fall Flat, which can make matches unpredictable as players flail around and hurl themselves through the air trying to get the drop on their opponents. Add to that a selection of weapons that appear on the stage; such as bats, tennis rackets, and freeze guns; and things get even more madcap.
Is Party Animals Coming to Consoles?
Since the demo is only available on Steam, it’s a given that Party Animals will be out on PC at some point, but as the demo becomes more popular fans are wondering if they will be able to play it elsewhere. The good news is that Party Animals will be heading to multiple platforms soon, as Recreate announced in a press release from July that the game is slated to launch on “PC and consoles in late 2020.”
Unfortunately, it’s yet to be specified which consoles the game is coming to. The PS4 seems like a safe bet, as does the Xbox One (which would also make the game playable on the Xbox Series X). The Switch, however, seems less likely given a lot of developers tend to consider it separately from other consoles. At any rate, while fans wait for an answer to this question, they can still try out the Steam demo, which will be available until October 13.
Party Animals will launch later this year for PC and unspecified consoles.
